We are Longhorn Racing Electric
Longhorn Racing Electric is a student design team at the University of Texas at Austin that designs, builds, and races a formula-style electric racecar.

Our Mission: Provide students with an opportunity to garner knowledge in the engineering field through hands-on learning in a challenging and innovative environment with other like-minded students.

The design goals for our first car are simplicity, reliability, and adherence to technical regulations. Future cars may incorporate features such as an aerodynamic wings and multiple motors for a higher level of performance.
We will build our car during the 2016-2017 school year. The parts and tools we use are generously provided or funded by corporate partners or individual donors. The build will take place in the UT SAE garage.
We will compete in the Formula SAE Electric competition of June 2017 in Lincoln, Nebraska. Our car will be judged on its speed, maneuverability, endurance, as well as design and affordability.
Why an Electric Car?
Electric cars are new, exciting, and revolutionizing the automotive industry. We aim to cultivate interest and education in this new technology and provide our members with a unique, cutting-edge experience. Having an electric car team increases the diversity of UT’s chapter of the Society of Automotive Engineers by attracting people from a wider variety of technical backgrounds.
